A house or bar sign is one of the most unique and personal gifts that you can give - it will always be something just a little special.

- THEY LOOK GREAT - Australian hardwoods are probably the best looking timbers in the world. The beautiful grain, and depth of colour is fantastic. We then carve your wording, and even some pictures, deeply into the wood, adding texture to the sign. No, we don’t do it by hand - we use a computerised router, keeping the price down and ensuring that you get a perfect result every time.
- THEY ARE REASONABLY PRICED - We’re not the cheapest out there, neither are we the most expensive. We figure we give pretty good value for money. One thing to watch for, though. Back in the days when signs were all cut by hand, signmakers had to charge by the letter. A lot of folk still charge a base rate for a sign, then add on a ‘per letter’ charge. We don’t do that - our sign price is what you pay - a big sign costs more than a little one - simple. You just need to consider how the sign will look - if you choose the smallest (cheapest) sign and put your name, your partner’s name, your dog’s name and your full street address, the result may not be particularly visible.
- WE USE GOOD QUALITY MATERIALS - Some manufacturers keep their costs down by using Pine (either treated or untreated). We only use Hardwood timber, as we think it looks (and lasts) far better. (Be careful if you’re buying an untreated pine sign, as it probably won’t last long outdoors).
- WE CAN CARVE YOUR OWN ARTWORK - We can carve pretty much any design you may choose to send us. We have done logos, foreign text, clip-art and other computer-generated artwork. Generally we find that pictures with lines of varying width give the most striking results.
- WE PROVIDE A PROOF - The computer software we use to cut your sign generates a proof image which we can email to you to make sure you know what you’re getting. It’s a lot easier to change things around before we start carving. To see how close the proof is to the final product, please click here.
- THEY LAST FOREVER - Well, maybe not forever, but you’ll see an awful lot of untreated Aussie hardwood that has lasted for decades out in the open (it generally doesn’t discolour as much as cedar, either). It’s important to consider, though - if you’re putting a sign on your front fence, it is the first thing that people see when they walk in, and you want it to keep looking great. The hardwoods we select are famous for their toughness, and their natural eucalyptus oil protects them from rot and insect damage. We then finish them with several coats of a preservative which is basically natural eucalyptus oil, with some additives to make your sign look better and last longer. We have chosen to use an oil finish because it is as close as possible to the natural condition of the timber, and because it lasts very well. Even ‘marine’ varnishes will break down over time (and sometimes not very much time), leaving a nasty flakey mess. We recommend that you freshen up the oil coating every year or so to keep your sign in tip-top condition.
